IT major, Wipro,  which previously asked freshers to accept a lower pay package of Rs. 3.5 lakh per annum from Rs. 6.5 lakh, now asked them to clear a fresh program "Project Readiness Program" (PRP) to stay in the company.

IT Union alleges Wipro of asking freshers to clear tests or face termination

Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a  Pune-based IT union had alleged these charges against the company.

These freshers have already undergone the "Velocity" training program earlier for 4-6 months to upgrade their package from Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh per annum.

The IT union alleged that Wipro promised to onboard these freshers after they complete the Velocity program with no further training.

According to an email sent to the freshers, the "Project Readiness Program is a program offered by Talent Transformation to all campus and off-campus hires referred to as NGAs (Next Generation Associates). The broad objective of PRP is to equip NGAs with the required knowledge and skills that will help them to work on customer projects."

The candidates need to undergo the PRP assessment test as a part of the training, which will have a negative marking of 0.25 per question. Failure to secure at least 60 % post-final supplementary attempt will lead to separation action with immediate effect through HR, the document quoted.

After the 4-8 week training, Wipro also mentioned in case of an employee does not clear a subsequent test with an overall score of at least 60% will be terminated immediately.

"At Wipro, we place immense value on seeing our talent grow and succeed. The Project Readiness Program is a part of our routine onboarding process and designed to ensure that our next-gen associates are assigned to the right client projects and have the most up-to-date skillset to make an immediate impact," said a company spokesperson.

In February, Wipro reached out to freshers to whom it had earlier offered Rs. 6.5 lakh package, asking them if an offer of Rs. 3.5 lakh in annual pay would be acceptable to them.
