Indian IT major Tata Consultancy Services has sent a memo to its employees who have not completed at least 12 days of work from the office in a month.
TCS will initiate disciplinary proceedings against the employees if they do not adhere to the roster, it said in the memo.
"You are warned and directed to start reporting to work from the office location as per the assigned roster with immediate effect," said the memo sent by the company.
In October last year, TCS told its employees that managers would roster them for three days a week, which they must follow.
TCS in response to a media agency, said, "We are excited to see our campuses buzzing with energy and want all our employees to be part of that vibrant ecosystem. A significant number of employees have joined TCS in the last two years. It is vital that they experience the environment to collaborate, learn, grow and also have fun together, thus developing a stronger sense of belonging to the organisation and enabling better integration."
As per media claims, associates should cancel their roster if anyone wants to work from home for two to three days and compensate for those days during the course of the month.
According to the guidelines for an exemption from the work-from-office requirement, employees can raise a request five days before. The HR system will not accept any backdated work-from-home application.
TCS had cleared previously that work from home would not be encouraged except for medical emergencies. It also communicated that there would be a deduction of salary or leaves for employees not following the roster.
The company was among the first IT services companies to call back its employees to the office and the only one so far to enforce it strictly.
Infosys has asked its employees to come to the office twice a week but not mandatorily.
